4 Myths Surrounding Chiropractors That Are Not True

Chiropractic makes use of non-invasive and natural procedures to promote health and prevent diseases. Utilizing different treatment methods such as functional medicine, rehabilitation therapy, manipulation, botanical and nutritional treatment, acupuncture, and controlled diets, chiropractors address a range of problems.

While it is true that chiropractic is gaining an increased awareness and popularity throughout the world, there still remain some misconception regarding the profession.

Here, we dispel 4 myths surrounding chiropractors.

They aren’t really doctors

Certified chiropractors have to obtain graduate-level degrees from recognized institutions in the United States. They are trained in a myriad of different subjects including biology, chemistry, and physical studies. By the time they are deemed qualified to perform, chiropractors have undergone countless hours of laboratory, classroom, and internship training and have also had to pass a number of examinations to obtain a license. This is not including the ongoing research and medical practices they have to study to remain up-to-date with the latest procedures.

The adjustments are painful

re-align the joints with chiropractic care

The pain experienced is due to existing conditions in patients and might increase slightly during the adjustments which help to re-align the joints. Most patients report a sense of relief and pain alleviation after they have undergone chiropractic care.

It is also important to note that the “cracking” sounds made during the adjustments is simply due to gas bubbles escaping from between the joints, similar to the sound of cracking your knuckles.

They only deal with back pain

It is true that the main area of focus for chiropractors is the spine. The spine acts as the pathway for the nervous system and ensures a proper transmission of signals and blood flow. It is also responsible for maintaining balance and mobility.

However, the benefits of chiropractic adjustments extend well beyond treating back pain and include relief from breathing problems, digestive problems, headaches, and muscle and joint pain.

Chiropractic care

You develop a reliance on the treatment

As is the case with any other doctor, you visit as long as the problem persists. For most patients, an initial diagnosis is conducted to identify the problem based on the symptoms and then a plan is laid out. It is then up to the patient to follow it through or leave mid-way to resort to some other means of treatment.

Many patients revisit their chiropractors because they feel the treatment is effective and/or improving their overall health.
